The video focuses on the changing media landscape, with the rise of Web 2.0 and social media, and the fall of traditional media. The video’s a update of a series from the project Shift Happens, which originally has an educational focus.

The video has a simplistic approach to facts and statistics concerning the rapidly changing media landscape. It seems that the facts and figures might be from a US perspective, but in my opinion you’ll nevertheless learn interesting facts about the online world as it is right now, such as:

  • Web users in the US have access to 1 trillion web pages
  • Myspace, Facebook, and YouTube collectively get 250 million unique visitors per month. None of these sites existed 6 years ago.
  • Wikipedia launched in 2001. It now features over 13 million articles in more than 200 languages.
  • 90 % of the 200 billion emails sent every day are spam.
